The PHP internals mailing list is discussing the vote on the Bound-Erased Generic Types RFC. Matthew Brown argues that rejecting the RFC would not be as damaging to PHP's external reputation as some fear, and that the philosophical objection to partially-erased types is the core reason for opposition. He believes this RFC represents the best possible proposal for erased generics, and that a rejection would at least clarify PHP's direction on the matter. Daniil Gentili agrees, warning that if the RFC fails, PHP will not have generics until at least mid-2027 due to RFC cooling-off periods.
