# vscode.dev - Bringing VS Code to the browser

**[Product Hunt](https://daily.dev/sources/ph)** · 1 min read · 132 upvotes · 9 comments

## Summary

No install required. Open a folder on your local machine and start coding. Now when you go to https://vscode.dev, you'll be presented with a lightweight version of VS Code running fully in the browser. It's free and open-source, so you don't have to use it for anything.

> I think this is great for low-specs device. I have some 2006-2007 laptops from my parent. I want to use them to teach my brothers some coding but it is kinda laggy even when I am just open vscode and a chrome instance. Maybe this would help me a lots.
