Waymo has suspended robotaxi service in Atlanta and San Antonio after vehicles were caught driving into flooded roads. An unoccupied Waymo vehicle got stuck in a flooded Atlanta street for about an hour. Despite a software recall issued the previous week meant to restrict operations in flood-risk areas, the fix proved insufficient because the Atlanta storm caused flooding before the National Weather Service issued any formal warnings — which Waymo's fleet relies on to avoid deep water. The incident adds to a growing list of safety concerns for Waymo, including ongoing NHTSA and NTSB investigations into robotaxis illegally passing school buses and a January crash that injured a child in Santa Monica.
