A reflection on how practicing Event Sourcing changed the author's mental model for problem-solving. Rather than jumping straight to data modeling (CRUD thinking), ES forces deeper interrogation of user actions and outcomes before deciding on a technical approach. The key insight is that the value lies in the process of evaluating whether to use CRUD or events, not in which pattern wins — leading to better understanding of user problems and richer vocabulary for discussing them. The author's ElixirConf 2025 talk on the subject is now available on YouTube.
