Mistral AI is a French AI company founded in 2023 by former DeepMind and Meta researchers, pursuing a strategy closer to Palantir than OpenAI — deploying models and agent platforms for governments and large enterprises via forward-deployed engineers. Its chat product Vibe (formerly Le Chat) has limited consumer traction, but the company has grown ARR from $20M to over $400M in a year and is targeting $1B ARR. Mistral has raised roughly $4B total, with a rumored new round at a $23B+ valuation.
