Microsoft announced two new Azure data products at Build. Azure HorizonDB is a new PostgreSQL-compatible managed database service in public preview, featuring a custom storage engine for higher performance and availability, AI pipelines for async background workflows, native AI model management, hybrid search (vector + full-text + re-ranking), and a VS Code extension for database development. Rayfin (Rayfen) is an open-source SDK and CLI that lets developers define their backend in code alongside application logic, then deploy it to Microsoft Fabric with built-in governance, compliance, and scale — bridging the gap between vibe-coded prototypes and production enterprise apps. Microsoft also highlighted its significant upstream PostgreSQL contributions, noting it modified roughly 8% of code changes in the upcoming PostgreSQL 19 release.
