# What's new in clickhousectl v0.5.0

**[ClickHouse](https://daily.dev/sources/clickhouse)** · 12 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

clickhousectl v0.5.0 adds an end-to-end UDF workflow, local to Cloud with one command, and new ClickHouse Managed Postgres observability. New Postgres commands cover metrics, server logs, slow-query patterns, read-only SQL over HTTP, and IP allow rules. The release also standardizes the command surface with uniform selectors, global org selection, and JSON errors everywhere, though some of these changes are breaking. BigQuery CDC ClickPipes now support continuous replication on an interval or cron schedule, saved queries are GA with Query API endpoints, and ClickStack management arrives in the CLI. Every Cloud command's help now lists the API-key permissions it needs.

## Questions this post answers

### What breaking changes are in clickhousectl v0.5.0?

Several breaking changes ship in clickhousectl v0.5.0: the rename flag on update commands changes from --name to --new-name (--name now selects the target), org commands require --org-id/--org-name instead of a positional ID, ClickPipe schema-discover argument order changes, native client flags must follow --, --wait/--wait-timeout is removed from postgres promote/switchover, GCP Postgres size names change (e.g. c4-standard-4 becomes c4-standard-lssd-4), and --encryption-key/--encryption-role are removed from service create. Old forms fail with a usage error (exit code 2) rather than being silently reinterpreted.

_Check daily.dev before upgrading clickhousectl so these breaking flag changes don't silently break your scripts._

### How do I create and deploy a user-defined function with clickhousectl?

Run 'clickhousectl local udf init my_udf' to scaffold a UDF directory with a udf.json definition and a Python script or native amd64/arm64 binaries. Test it locally with 'clickhousectl local udf deploy my_udf' and query it via SQL. Once it works, 'clickhousectl cloud udf deploy my_udf --service <service-id>' packages the directory, creates the UDF or a new version, attaches it to the service, and wakes the service in one step.

_Developers building ClickHouse UDFs can track CLI workflow changes like this on daily.dev._

### Can I query ClickHouse Managed Postgres slow queries from the command line?

Yes, 'clickhousectl cloud postgres slow-queries list <postgres-id>' lists normalized query patterns sorted by total, average, p95, or p99 duration, along with CPU, rows, and WAL data, filterable by a date range with --from-date and --to-date. The 'get' subcommand then shows one pattern's recent executions, and 'postgres prometheus' exposes the raw Prometheus endpoint for existing scraping setups.

_Engineers debugging slow Postgres queries can keep up with tooling like this via daily.dev._
