# What’s new in GTK, winter 2025 edition

**[GTK Development Blog](https://daily.dev/sources/gtk-blog)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

GTK 4.18 brings several notable changes following the FOSDEM hackfest. Breaking changes include stricter initialization requirements and dropping support for Windows versions older than 10 and macOS older than 10.15. The old GL renderer has been removed, and the X11 and Broadway backends are now deprecated ahead of GTK 5. On the positive side, a new AccessKit backend brings accessibility support to Windows and macOS for the first time, widget layout performance has been improved, fractional scaling pointer size issues on Wayland are fixed, and an experimental Android backend is now available allowing GTK4 apps to run on Android devices.
