Yes, this is pretty well established by now and I’ve already written extensively about how agentic coding is a <a href="https://daily.dev/posts/agentic-coding-is-a-trap-recently-featured-on-theo-gg-hackernews-fireship--h9ys4rtgp" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">trap</a>, but its clear these tools demand expertise to manage effectively. And expertise is something that is built over time and with the friction that comes from doing work that doesn’t involve having the solutions at the ready all the time. We now have studies coming out even from companies like JetBrains that are demonstrating that junior and novice developers are unable to experience this friction while using these tools, short-circuiting their ability to grow.
So, this creates a rather large contradiction and paradox: if expertise is required to effectively use these tools, yet these tools can actively prevent the ability for one to become an expert, then what is the path for one to become an expert, so they can effectively use these tools?
