Why I Built Vykar Backup: A Faster, Simpler Rust Backup Tool

Vykar is a new open-source Rust-based backup tool that consolidates configuration, scheduling, backup, restore, and monitoring into a single binary with one YAML config file. Built by the creator of BorgBase and Vorta, it addresses fragmentation in the backup ecosystem where tools like Borg, Restic, and Kopia each require additional wrappers. Key features include built-in scheduling via a daemon, a desktop GUI, WebDAV snapshot browsing, support for local/S3/SFTP/REST backends, and native command dumps for streaming Docker database backups (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB) without temp files or bash scripts. Benchmarks show it outperforms Borg, Restic, Rustic, and Kopia on backup and restore speed with lower CPU usage. It's early-stage but open source on GitHub.
