Manager READMEs are widely recommended but create three core problems: they produce an idealized, inaccurate self-portrait; they ignore the inherent power dynamics between managers and reports; and they push adaptation burden onto the team rather than the manager. Instead, the author advocates for intro meetings, regular 1-on-1s, Ask Me Anything sessions, and a collaborative Team Working Agreement as more effective alternatives for building trust and alignment.
