# Why I gave up on self-hosted Sentry

**[Hacker News](https://daily.dev/sources/hn)** · 6 min read · 33 upvotes · 6 comments

## Summary

Self-hosting Sentry has become increasingly difficult due to high hardware requirements, complex setup procedures, and significant maintenance burdens. The author, initially enthusiastic about Sentry, ultimately decided it was not worth the trouble and created a simpler, more lightweight alternative for those in similar situations.

> I think they dont want you to do self-host. but give option so some dev see and think they are not evil org and support them but when you start self hosting you get the pain

> The article doesn't provide real-world production experience as it may imply. It's more focused on covering the initial setup and their requirements. We are running production load on a Sentry on-prem for more than 2 years. Yes, it is time consuming, but it serves us well. No doubt the cloud service is better and easier.

> This is interesting as I've had a different experience. I run Sentry in a Proxmox container with 16GB of RAM and 4 cores (their minimum requirements), and it runs perfectly fine. Initial setup was pretty simple too as it mainly comes down to running a single script. I run it by myself and use it for production monitoring.

> The post is from September last year, seems very nitpicky, and references things that don't exist anymore. It reads more like the writer is attacking Sentry in order to promote their own product.

> somehow i agree with most part of the article but i think sentry is good for some specific needs. There is also another option with less config or services like glitchtip and some other tools.
