# Why NVIDIA Is Reviving the RTX 3060 in 2026?

## Summary

NVIDIA is reportedly bringing back the GeForce RTX 3060 GPU in 2026 due to RAM shortages and supply issues with current-generation cards. The RTX 3060, originally launched in 2021 and discontinued in 2024, remains the most popular GPU on Steam. Rising DRAM prices driven by AI demand have made newer 60-series cards with GDDR7 memory more expensive to produce at scale. By reviving a proven, mature GPU that millions already own, NVIDIA aims to fill the mass-market gaming segment while demonstrating its strategic control over the hardware ecosystem.

The most popular GPU on Steam is going to be back this year.

According to recent reports, NVIDIA is set to bring back the GeForce RTX 3060 this year due to ongoing RAM shortages and shaky supply of current-gen GPUs.

The RTX 3060 was first launched in 2021 and officially discontinued in 2024. But it is still the most popular GPU on Steam.

What’s interesting here is why this is happening. With AI demand pushing DRAM prices higher, NVIDIA’s newer 60-series cards (especially those relying on GDDR7) are becoming more expensive to ship at scale.

Instead of leaving a massive hole in the mass-market gaming segment, NVIDIA is going back to what it knows works: a mature, proven GPU that millions of gamers already own and trust.

This move quietly reinforces one of the core points in my article - NVIDIA’s dominance isn’t just about the best chips. It’s about control over the full stack and knowing when to push forward and when to fall back.

If you want to understand how NVIDIA built the kind of ecosystem and market power that lets it revive a 5-year-old GPU and still move the industry, I broke it all down in a deep-dive here:
