# WordPress 7.1 ships collab tools, Qwen edges past Claude on frontend leaderboard

**[Web Digest](https://daily.dev/sources/webdev_digest)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

WordPress 7.1 landed with real collaboration features but pushed the icon API's rough edges to 7.2. Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Max nudged past Claude Fable 5 on the Frontend Code leaderboard at a fraction of the cost, though Fable finished faster. Socket traced 77 Firefox extension identities to a single crypto-theft operation that turns trusted utility apps into wallet drainers after they build up install counts. CSS keeps inching forward with a Class Prefix Selector spec resolution and Chrome shipping a controversial URL-leaking side channel.

## WordPress 7.1 ships with collaboration features, defers icon API fixes to 7.2

The August 19 release brings @mention notifications, inline notes, shareable revision links, and hover/focus styling without touching CSS. Gutenberg 23.8's List View rework is the sleeper hit here: selecting all blocks on a 1,000-paragraph post dropped from 16.8 seconds to 0.4 seconds. The new Icon Registration API lets you register custom SVG icon sets, but the allowlist only covers svg, path, and polygon elements, strips stroke attributes entirely, and still has no way to use those icons outside the Icon block. That work is explicitly deferred to 7.2. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/7NWAD50uV)

## Qwen3.8-Max passes Claude Fable 5 on frontend leaderboard, costs a third as much

Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Max debuted at #4 on Arena.ai's Frontend Code leaderboard, edging out Claude Fable 5, and it's the second Chinese-lab model after Kimi K3 to clear that bar in three weeks. A head-to-head on ten one-shot UI prompts came out close (four wins for Fable, three for Qwen, three ties), but the cost gap was not: $3.05 for Qwen versus $8.44 for Fable across all ten tasks. Fable was faster on average (2m 11s vs Qwen's 7m 55s) and had fewer failures, so this isn't a clean win either direction, but the price difference is the number worth remembering. ## 77 Firefox extension identities tied to a coordinated wallet-theft operation

Socket's Threat Research team found 40 of 77 linked extension identities actively stealing wallet credentials, impersonating OKX, Rabby, and TronLink using Supabase-controlled remote kill switches and Cloudflare Workers for exfiltration. The unsettling part is the pattern: several started as harmless todo apps or sports trackers, built up install counts and trust, then got quietly updated into credential stealers under the same extension ID. Socket reported live extensions to Mozilla and published indicators of compromise if you want to check your own extension list. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/2BtXKHvfi)

## CSS Class Prefix Selector resolved in spec, Chrome ships a URL-leaking side channel

The `.prefix-*` selector, letting you target all classes sharing a hyphenated prefix like `.btn-*`, was resolved into CSS Selectors Level 5 spec text two weeks ago at the CSS Working Group's Berlin meeting. No browser supports it yet and it may be years out, though you can feature-detect it today with `@supports selector(.foo-*)`. Separately, a write-up making the rounds shows how pure CSS in Chrome 150+ can leak a full URL, a reminder that CSS selectors keep finding new ways to become side channels.
