Former xAI engineer Devin Kim has filed a lawsuit against xAI and SpaceX, alleging he was fired in September 2025 after repeatedly raising AI safety concerns about Grok. The complaint claims Kim's supervisor, xAI co-founder Jimmy Ba, retaliated against him for pushing safety measures, allegedly telling Kim 'AI will kill us all anyway' and prioritizing speed to superintelligence over safety. The lawsuit highlights Grok's subsequent controversies, including the 'MechaHitler' incident and nonconsensual imagery flooding X. Notably, the suit does not implicate Elon Musk, instead portraying him as having directed xAI to follow safety protocols. The filing comes days before SpaceX's anticipated record-breaking IPO. Kim has since been named president of the Center for AI Safety.
