## Summary

A creator shares an unscripted hands-on test of a supposed 'GPT6 Astra' model with computer-use capability, showing it repeatedly failing to draw a yellow circle on a canvas as demonstrated in a promotional video. The tool struggles with basic instructions, burns through a large share of usage tokens, runs extremely slowly on a MacBook Pro M1, and produces results far below what was shown in the marketing demo, leading the presenter to conclude the promo was largely exaggerated.

I don't mean to say that the "bubble will burst", as I think it will be a mundane deflationary process, but it would herald the beginning of the unwinding. I think that is well underway, and as Astra continues to only show modest improvements as people use it more for actual work, the more the people will realize this whether the big tech companies want us to or not.

> In a moment when everyone is jerking these tech people off, it is good to see some clarity about what is actually going on. Shows again the only danger is always the humans and not the machine, or whatever scapgoat they use to continue to fist us with no lube. Im talking the whole fist. Wrist deep and they won't stop rotating. Cheers mate for this.

I don’t mean to say that the “bubble will burst”, as I think it will be a mundane deflationary process, but it would herald the beginning of the unwinding. I think that is well underway, and as Astra continues to only show modest improvements as people use it more for actual work, the more the people will realize this whether the big tech companies want us to or not.\nIMO, the vast majority of improvements in recent memory have come from:\n\no1’s introduction of “reasoning tokens”…although, oddly enough, I find the “reasoning” models to often convolute and overengineer things as much as they help. I often reach for non-reasoning models for many tasks.\nMore training data (we keep handing it over!) and thus more fine tuning to the specific work people do. For example, they know people are crazy impressed by greenfield generated apps and renderings, so naturally these last few models excel at that; it’s a fantastic promo feature, even if it’s real-world applications are slim.\nBetter harnesses and tool calling (this is huge). I find I can squeeze incredible performance out of models like Kimi, GLM and Mimo just by using custom and narrow scoped harnesses and workflows.\n\nOf course, yes, there’s actual improvements to the models in terms of parameter count and fine tuning, but these are modest at best…and quite costly. And, entirely unsustainable.\nThe whole calling Astra “AGI” is a coordinated effort to “get past” the term, otherwise the industry is always falling short from the original promises. It’s an albatross on their necks, one they are certain to never reach, so they just declare it has happened and then never speak of it again.\nIn other words, this is the AI industry’s equivalent of the “Mission Accomplished” banner from the Iraq war.","datePublished":"2026-09-07T15:07:37.573Z","dateModified":"2026-09-07T15:08:43.546Z","url":"https://daily.dev/posts/xbMWBZMkw#c-CXkCiakK7","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Lars Faye | Confident Coding","url":"https://daily.dev/confidentcoding","image":"https://media.daily.dev/image/upload/s--OGZu5DEc--/f_auto/v1772569630/avatars/avatar_umWZ9aQAng34qk5aaJl2q?_a=BAMAMiiu0"},"interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":{"@type":"LikeAction"},"userInteractionCount":10}},{"@type":"Comment","text":"I stopped using it for now.
