# Xcode 27 drew a white strip over my iPhone app's status bar

## Summary

Building an app with Xcode 27.1 showed a white strip behind the iPhone status bar that wasn't present in builds from Xcode 26.6. The app, a Svelte web view wrapped with Capacitor, was unaffected in code; the strip came from iOS itself. Since iOS 26, every UIScrollView gets a 'scroll edge effect' at the top and bottom, and a WKWebView's internal scroll view gets one too. In its 'hard' style this effect paints a solid 62pt band, matching the safe area height. The fix sets 'topEdgeEffect.isHidden' and 'bottomEdgeEffect.isHidden' to true on the web view's scroll view inside the CAPBridgeViewController subclass. A separate snag: Xcode 27.2 builds got rejected by App Store Connect with error 90534 for using an unsupported SDK version.

## Questions this post answers

### Why does my Capacitor app show a white strip behind the iPhone status bar after building with Xcode 27?

The white strip is the new 'scroll edge effect' iOS adds to every UIScrollView since iOS 26, including the internal scroll view inside a WKWebView. In its 'hard' style it renders a solid band exactly matching the top safe area height (62pt on the tested device), overriding your page's background color behind the status bar.

_Developers hitting this iOS 26 regression in hybrid apps can track Xcode and SDK quirks like this on daily.dev._

### How do I disable the scroll edge effect on a WKWebView in iOS 26 or later?

Set 'isHidden' to true on both 'topEdgeEffect' and 'bottomEdgeEffect' of the web view's scroll view, guarded with '#available(iOS 26.0, *)'. In a Capacitor app this goes inside the 'CAPBridgeViewController' subclass, called from 'capacitorDidLoad()', which removes the unwanted band without affecting the page content below it.

_Hybrid app developers patching iOS 26 scroll view behavior can follow fixes like this via daily.dev._

### Why did App Store Connect reject my build with error 90534 'Unsupported SDK or Xcode version'?

App Store Connect only accepts builds made with a released Xcode version or the latest release candidate. A build made with Xcode 27.2, which was ahead of the accepted releases, was rejected with error 90534, forcing the upload to be redone from a machine running an older, accepted Xcode version.

_Teams juggling Xcode beta versions and App Store submissions can keep tabs on these gotchas through daily.dev._
