# You should all be asking way more questions

**[sean goedecke](https://daily.dev/sources/seangoedecke)** · 7 min read · 7 upvotes · 3 comments

## Summary

An engineer argues that asking frequent, detailed questions while someone explains a plan is a crucial habit for catching misunderstandings early, especially for anyone with real responsibility for outcomes. The habit extends to working with AI coding agents like GPT-6-Astra and Claude Opus 5.5: while these models rarely make code mistakes, they frequently make design mistakes because they lack the accumulated context a human engineer would pick up over time. The author recommends peppering AI agents with clarifying questions about architecture, authentication, and dependencies, since roughly half the time such questions reveal a mistaken assumption in the model's plan.

> Yes, this has been on my mind lately. What troubles me most is sometimes I can't bring myself to talk and ask people and colleagues about a certain area in their code. Sometimes I feel like I would damage their ego when I point out something wrong. Asking for clarification is easy for me, but asking about how they implement it and why is hard. Especially if I know more about that certain area of the code. But then again, I guess this is something I need to practice with time.
