# Your AM5 boot time is slower than it should be, and it's probably not your CPU

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

DDR5 RAM's complex architecture — including dual sub-channels, on-die power management, and higher speeds — requires significantly longer memory training on every boot compared to DDR4, making AM5 systems noticeably slower to start. The Memory Context Restore (MCR) BIOS setting can cut boot times by up to a minute by reusing previously validated memory parameters instead of retraining from scratch. However, MCR only works when waking from standby (not cold boots), and can cause instability on high-speed DDR5 kits. Combining MCR with the 'Power Down Enable' setting and Fast Boot can help balance speed and stability.
