# Your cheap USB-C cables will fail with USB4

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Not all USB-C cables are created equal, and the differences become critical with USB4 hardware. Cheap cables rated only for USB 3.2 or basic charging may cause issues like reduced NVMe SSD speeds, monitors failing to reconnect after sleep, or broken daisy-chaining. USB4 demands signal integrity at much higher frequencies, so cables must be explicitly rated for it. Key advice: check USB-IF certification, verify the cable's rated bandwidth (up to 80 Gbps) and power delivery (up to 240W), and look past vague marketing terms like 'fast charging' or 'Thunderbolt compatible.' Affordable USB4-rated cables do exist and are often recommended within the USB community — the key is doing the research before buying.
