# Your mesh nodes are talking over Wi-Fi when they could be wired, and it's killing your speed

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 6 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Mesh Wi-Fi systems using wireless backhaul on dual-band setups cut available bandwidth roughly in half because the same radio handles both backhaul and device connections. The fix is wired backhaul: connecting satellite nodes to the primary router via Ethernet frees the wireless radios to focus entirely on client devices, restoring full Wi-Fi speeds. For those who can't run cables to every node, wiring even most of them helps significantly. Alternatively, repurposing old routers as wired access points achieves similar coverage without a mesh system at all.
