**Day 07 of UI/UX Psychology & Laws: Gestalt Principle of Continuity**

![Gestalt Continuity_ Guiding the User’s Eye.png](https://media.daily.dev/image/upload/s--HuEjBmOS--/f_auto/v1790995578/ugc/content_06e2b6b6-6323-4101-9916-153b40249965?_a=BAMAMicg0)

A user shouldn't have to mentally map your interface before they can use it.

Their eyes should naturally know where to go.

That's where the **Gestalt Principle of Continuity** becomes useful.

We naturally follow smooth, continuous lines, curves, and visual paths.

When elements are aligned along the same path, they feel connected.

When that path suddenly breaks, the interface can feel scattered even when every individual element looks perfectly fine.

Think about a checkout flow:

**Account → Profile → Payment → Confirmation**

A clear visual path makes the journey feel like one process.

Now imagine those steps jumping around the screen.

Same information.

Same actions.

But the experience feels harder to follow.

That's because **visual flow affects how we understand information.**

You can use continuity in:

→ Progress indicators

→ Forms

→ Navigation

→ Card layouts

→ Timelines

→ Dashboards

→ Content sections

The goal isn't to force everything into a straight line.

It's to create a visual path that helps the eye understand **what comes next**.

Good UI doesn't just organize information.

**It guides attention from one point to the next.**

And when that flow feels natural, users don't have to think about the design.

They simply follow it.

**That's good UX.**

Which UI/UX psychology principle should I break down next?
