# Zig quits GitHub, gripes about Microsoft's AI obsession

**[The Register](https://daily.dev/sources/theregister)** · 5 min read · 119 upvotes · 29 comments

## Summary

The Zig Software Foundation is migrating from GitHub to Codeberg, citing declining engineering quality and neglected critical bugs in GitHub Actions. A CPU-spinning bug in GitHub's safe_sleep script went unaddressed for years despite being reported multiple times, causing CI runners to hang indefinitely. Zig's president criticized Microsoft's AI focus as distracting from core platform maintenance, pointing to what he calls 'vibe-scheduling' where jobs run seemingly at random. The move reflects broader developer concerns about GitHub's priorities, with Codeberg doubling its membership since January as other projects also consider leaving.

> Still, GitHub remains the biggest platform, with the absolute best UX and security of availability if your project is not political. With Codeberg instances, you never know when the code is available or not. And if you tell me, you are mirroring your code anyway, then there'd be also no need to migrate away from GitHub in the first place, apart from changing HQ.

> Am not saying, Codeberg sux or anything. I'm just saying, that it's sooo damn easy to hate on a platform like GitHub while it's still there. If GitHub would disappear over night, hell would break loose and people then would finally...

> You can tell when corps are overly dependent on "AI" (yes in quotes it's not AGI) because the changes they are making have zero reasoning.
