The Amazon-owned company is deploying Toyota Highlander SUVs to collect mapping data before transitioning to its purpose-built robotaxis. Once live in both cities, Zoox will operate in 10 US markets. The company has logged over a million autonomous miles and served 300,000+ passengers in Las Vegas and San Francisco. Zoox is still awaiting federal NHTSA exemptions to commercially operate its steering-wheel-free purpose-built AV, and will also need local regulatory approvals.
