Agentic AI and Security
Agentic AI systems face a fundamental security flaw: LLMs cannot distinguish instructions from data, making them vulnerable to prompt injection attacks. The "Lethal Trifecta" occurs when an LLM has access to sensitive data, untrusted content, and external communication simultaneously, enabling attackers to exfiltrate information through hidden instructions. Mitigations include minimizing each trifecta element, running LLMs in isolated containers, splitting tasks into smaller controlled steps, maintaining human oversight at every stage, and following the principle of least privilege. Despite vendor efforts, no fully secure agentic AI systems exist yet.

Design Patterns for Securing LLM Agents against Prompt Injections
A comprehensive research paper by 11 authors from IBM, Google, Microsoft and other organizations presents six design patterns to mitigate prompt injection attacks in LLM agents. The patterns include Action-Selector, Plan-Then-Execute, LLM Map-Reduce, Dual LLM, Code-Then-Execute, and Context-Minimization approaches. Each pattern trades some agent flexibility for security by constraining actions and preventing untrusted input from triggering arbitrary tasks. The paper includes ten detailed case studies covering practical applications like SQL agents, email assistants, and customer service chatbots, providing threat models and mitigation strategies for each scenario.

Antigravity Grounded! Security Vulnerabilities in Google's Latest IDE · Embrace The Red
Security researcher discovers five critical vulnerabilities in Google's new Antigravity IDE, including remote code execution via indirect prompt injection, data exfiltration through multiple vectors, and hidden instruction execution using invisible Unicode characters. These issues were previously reported in Windsurf (which Antigravity is based on) but remain unpatched. The vulnerabilities exploit the IDE's auto-execute features, lack of human-in-the-loop controls for MCP tool invocations, and over-reliance on LLM output for security decisions. Practical mitigations include disabling auto-execute, carefully managing MCP server permissions, and considering alternative IDEs until fixes are deployed.

How to protect your AI agent from prompt injection attacks
Six design patterns help protect LLM agents from prompt injection attacks: Action-Selector limits responses to predefined actions, Plan-Then-Execute creates fixed plans before processing untrusted data, LLM Map-Reduce isolates processing of malicious inputs, Dual LLM separates privileged and quarantined models, Code-Then-Execute generates programs in sandboxed environments, and Context-Minimization removes potentially harmful prompts from conversation history. Each pattern offers different trade-offs between security and functionality.

this thing is a security nightmare
AI-powered browsers like ChatGPT Atlas and Comet pose significant security and privacy risks. These browsers grant AI models access to complete browsing history and habits, creating privacy concerns even when opt-out settings exist. More critically, they're vulnerable to prompt injection attacks where malicious websites can embed hidden instructions that hijack the AI agent controlling the browser, potentially stealing sensitive data like authentication codes. The fundamental flaw is combining an AI system that ingests arbitrary content with browser control capabilities, creating attack vectors that even OpenAI's CEO acknowledges can only be 95% mitigated. Ironically, these AI companies build their browsers by forking Chromium rather than using AI to write code from scratch.
