daily.dev is 3 years old and we want to share our excitement

What a year! Building daily.dev is one hell of a ride. Today our little baby has grown to be three years old, and we'd like to share with you how things look from the cockpit. Team daily.dev believes in transparency, which is why we're doing this report and why we went open-source.

In this post, we want to share our appreciation for our community. We'll be showing our stats and how each of our users has contributed to the project's success. This post covers three topics:

10x Higher Growth Rate

daily.dev started growing faster than ever since it became a full-scale project in June 2020. ‍

Starting with ~0.5% weekly growth rate and climbed up to ~5%.

100M pageviews is closer than ever

Making daily.dev simpler and easier to use is an essential part of our product roadmap.

Pageviews per user increased by 15% compared to the previous year.

Delivering the great content is what daily.dev is all about! As the community grows and becomes more diverse, so does the challenge in delivering relevant content.

Last July we introduced a new reputation system that includes the ability to upvote and rank articles based on the community’s interests.

+100 New Sources Added

We care about delivering high-quality content. However, we couldn’t do it without the help of our community. This past year we got hundreds of new source suggestions.

More than 100 suggestions were approved.

Product Recap

#1 - daily.dev rebranding

For those who use daily.dev for more than a year now, you probably remember having different brand names. This year we decided to take a leap of faith and adopt a new brand that will get us closer to our audience -- developers. So now our name includes both "daily" (like the routine morning meeting in agile development) and "dev".

#2 - Card redesign

After a careful process of examination and long conversations with you, our community, we realized that our feed could use some redesign. In our new card design, we decided to put the title in the most dominant placement -- the top of the card. That way, it makes it easier to scan through the feed to hunt for the most relevant dev news for you. We also had to enable a whole new set of features that we will cover here next.

#3 - Upvotes

In the big release of v2.19.0, we introduced upvotes. It was a kickoff to a new post ranking system. By upvoting, you can influence the ranking of an article in a straightforward way. Posts are now ranked based on the entire community's upvotes in addition to the unique views (with upvotes having a higher weight in our ranking algorithm).

#4 - Discussions

daily.dev is first and foremost a community of developers gathering around discovering the latest dev news. The only thing left was to give you the ability to interact with other devs on our network. That's why we enabled our community to start discussions on trending dev news and enrich one another.

#5 - Featured Comments

For every post, the comment with the most upvotes can be featured on the main feed of daily.dev. We now let awesome devs from the community appear on the feed and get their comment exposed in front of tens of thousands of devs worldwide!

#6 - Your Profile

We've created an entirely new profile page. Your profile has its web URL so you can share it with other friends and brag about your achievements! For more details, check out the release note.

#7 - Reputation

Reputation is a rough measurement of how much the community trusts you; it is earned by getting positive feedback (as upvotes) from other community members on comments you post. haven't had the chance to check it out yet, don't worry, we got you covered. #8 - Stats

In your new profile, you're now able to see your stats on the comments you made and the articles you wrote. More about those features below!

#9 - Premium Plan

Earlier this year, we released a package of new features for Premium Subscribers. Including features that let you:

• Add any source you want to your private feed (without review)
• Manage your bookmarks in lists
• Integrate your daily.dev account with +100 third-party apps
• Ads-Free

#10 - Author Credit

Some devs in our community are doing the extra mile by writing blog posts for developers, and we wanted to give them proper attribution. Being featured on the daily.dev feed might drive tons of traffic to your blog, but that's not enough. Therefore, we've added author credits both in the browser extension and on our web app.

#11 - Author Badge

To make things even sweeter, authors who comment on their articles get a unique author badge so that the community will be able to know they're present.
