DLSS 4.5 is phenomenal, but Nvidia left one big problem unsolved... until now

DLSS 4.5 has been missing a key component since its CES 2026 launch: Ray Reconstruction compatibility. Because DLSS 4.5 uses a new transformer-based AI model while Ray Reconstruction was built on the older DLSS 3.5 architecture, enabling RR silently downgraded the upscaler back to DLSS 4. Nvidia is fixing this in August 2026 with a new dedicated Ray Reconstruction model built on its second-gen transformer architecture, delivering ~35% more compute capability and significantly better handling of fine moving details like rain, particles, and foliage. The update will roll out via a GeForce Game Ready driver and the Nvidia App's DLSS Override feature, requiring no individual game patches. This completes Nvidia's AI rendering stack — Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, DLAA, and Multi-Frame Generation — and signals a broader shift toward AI constituting the entire real-time graphics pipeline.
