Microsoft Discovery is an agentic R&D platform that applies AI agent teams to scientific research workflows — from chemistry and materials science to drug discovery. The platform includes a graph-based knowledge retrieval system (GraphRAG-powered bookshelf), a discovery engine that automates the hypothesis-experimentation-reasoning loop, and a new free local app requiring only a GitHub Copilot license. A live demo showed agents analyzing 100 scientific papers on containers vs. serverless architectures, generating Jupyter notebooks with cost/performance trade-off analysis and executive summaries. The platform has reached general availability, with enterprise customers like Science Co. using it to identify novel heat transfer fluid candidates for semiconductors.
