Anthropic released the Claude Apps Gateway, a self-hosted control plane for Claude Code that provides corporate login, central policy, role-based access, per-user cost attribution, and spend caps. The post analyzes what makes it architecturally sound — gateway-level governance, OpenTelemetry-based telemetry, and per-engineer identity resolution — while honestly flagging enterprise risks: it's day one software, it's critical infrastructure you must operate, it only governs Claude Code (not Cursor, Copilot, or Bedrock), and metered estimates still need reconciliation against actual invoices. Early adopters should be Kubernetes-native teams with existing observability stacks and a FinOps function. Teams needing multi-tool unified governance or turnkey SLA reliability should wait or pilot narrowly.
