Krafton, the South Korean publisher behind PUBG and Subnautica, has appointed Kangwook Lee as its first chief AI officer (CAIO). Lee previously led Krafton AI since 2022, overseeing research in machine learning, NLP, reinforcement learning, and multimodal systems, as well as partnerships like the Nvidia collaboration for AI Co-Playable Characters. The company's AI strategy focuses on three pillars: enhancing gameplay immersion, streamlining developer workflows, and long-term research including a new robotics entity called Ludo Robotics. Krafton insists AI will augment rather than replace human creativity, though the announcement follows a voluntary resignation program launched amid its stated goal of becoming an 'AI First' company.
