Unity 6.5 has been released, with the headline change being the official deprecation of the Built-in Render Pipeline (BURP). It will continue to receive support through Unity 6.7 but will receive no new features. The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) is now the single recommended pipeline going forward. Key new features include a Light Search tool for quickly finding and editing lights in a scene, mobile GPU tile post-processing improvements (reducing bandwidth on Vulkan and Metal devices), 2D enhancements such as custom lights, custom shadowcasting, a new blend shapes API, and the Physics Core 2D module. Shader Graph gains a Reflection API for custom HLSL functions. The Package Manager now consolidates all samples in one view. Core CLR modernization continues behind the scenes, with major changes expected in Unity 6.7. Android startup performance improved 1–12% on tested devices, and WebAssembly 2023 is now enabled by default.
