Epic Games has revealed that Unreal Engine 6 will deeply integrate generative AI, allowing studios to plug in models like Anthropic's Claude and Google's Gemini via a Model Context Protocol (MCP) layer. The engine's three pillars are a new programming language called Verse, open standards for content portability, and AI integration. A preview is already available in UE5.8 as an experimental MCP plugin. UE6 targets early access in late 2027. The move is controversial: a GDC 2026 survey found 52% of game developers believe generative AI is negatively impacting the industry, up from 30% in 2025. Some studios, like Vampire Survivors maker Poncle, are already reconsidering partnerships with Epic over the AI direction.
