Microsoft has announced an experimental Intelligent Terminal for Windows 11 that brings AI coding agents directly into the shell environment. Rather than forcing developers to copy errors, switch to a chat window, and paste context manually, the Intelligent Terminal detects errors in real time and lets users invoke agents like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Codex with a single click. It supports any Agent Communication Protocol (ACP) compatible agent and can be displayed in a background tab, side pane, or bottom panel — or disabled entirely. The feature is similar in concept to what Warp has been doing, but integrated natively into Windows 11.
